Crews Contain Fire in Neighborhood That Has Burned Before

Neighbors grabbed their garden hoses to help put out a house fire on Sherwood Drive Monday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County crews got the upper hand quickly. Fire Capt. Bruce Carlisle said he could tell neighbors, watching from the street, were nervous. Many of them remember the June 1990 Painted Cave fire, which destroyed almost every home along the drive. Carlisle fought that fire, too.

Firefighters saved two dogs in the home. They said no one else was at home.

The smoke and flames came from the back of the house. The cause remains under investigation.
