Controversial Party Prompts Forum at Cal Poly

Administrators at Cal Poly are hosting a midday forum Friday to discuss racism and sexism following criticism of a party hosted by off-campus fraternity and sorority organizations.

The event was billed as “Colonial Bros and Nava-hos,” which prompted criticism and an investigation from Cal Poly’s Dean of Students. At the party, men were encouraged to dress in colonial garb; women were asked to dress in skimpy outfits reflecting Native Americans. The investigation is to determine if any part of the University’s student code of conduct was violated.

Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong sent an email to all students and staff on campus saying, “Let us be clear, events like these have no place in the Cal Poly community and are not reflective of the principles of The Mustang Way.”

The Cal Poly forum is scheduled from noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday.
