DUI Charges Formally Filed in Early-Morning Accident

Brent MacDonald Pella has charged with felony DUI and a special allegation of great bodily injury. The accident happened in the early hours of Oct. 11 when Pella hit a pedestrian in downtown Santa Barbara.

Pella, 23, was arrested after the accident near the intersection of Carrillo and Bath. Sources tell NewsChannel 3 Pella was a sports editor at The Daily Nexus, the student newspaper at UCSB and graduated in 2012.

Camden Partridge, 24, from Fullerton was crossing the street when he was hit causing great bodily injury.

Officers were called to the scene at 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11. Pella was driving a green Hyundai Sonata, attempting a left turn from Bath onto Carrillo. The pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Pella submitted to a breath test and a blood alcohol test. The breath test measured .11, above the legal limit for blood alcohol content of .08.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office filed charges on Monday.
