Shredding Event Fills Two Trucks in Record Time

Free shredding events like the one held in Goleta Wednesday night, have become so popular that cars arrive early with the maximum amount of papers. In this case, six banker boxes full of personal papers such as old bank statements and tax returns.

Many drivers believe it will protect them from identity theft.

Union Bank, Newschannel 3, Camino Real Marketplace and the Community Environmental Council organized the event.

It was supposed to go until 7 p.m., but the shredding truck was full to the brim by 6:30 p.m. and another truck full of locked trash containers to take to a shredding warehouse was full too.

Randy Weiss, of Union Bank, stuck around to apologize for turning them away.

He said they would have another event like it early next year.
