Local Aid Worth Millions Headed to Philippines

Direct Relief shipped out 28 pallets of medicines and supplies to the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan Thursday morning.

The massive amount of medical aid is valued at $2.2 million.

“It’s really hard for us here when we see such a huge need for medical aid. We are trying to get the right aid into the right hands so we can help save lives in the Philippines,” said Kerri Murray, vice president of communications at Direct Relief.

The packages will be sent to 19 different islands and will care for about 30,000 people for a month.

“We are sending everything from basic antibiotics to IV solutions to toothpaste,” said Murray.

FedEx is also pitching in. It is shipping all the pallets to the Philippines for free.
