Firefighters Ask You to Fill the Boot for MDA

Santa Barbara City firefighters will be putting their best foot forward on Friday when they ask residents to help with the “Fill the Boot” fundraiser.

The event raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Off duty firefighters will be holding out a boot asking for donations from drivers with all the money going to the MDA. The partnership goes back 50 years.

They plan to be at the corner of State St. and De La Guerra, if you are in the area.

“It is a very positive thing for everybody and it feels good for us to be involved and to raise money locally for the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” said Captain Gary Pitney. “And the people who drive down the street sometimes don’t have their wallet handy and they go around the corner (and come back) and however we get the money we appreciate their involvement.”

The fill the boot event takes place from 9 am to 3 pm.
