Man Sought in Fatal Accident Surrenders

The driver sought in a Santa Ynez hit-and-run fatal accident surrendered to police in Ventura Wednesday afternoon.

Luis Diaz, 28, was sought after a motorcyclist died in a crash at the intersection of Highways 154 and 246.

California Highway Patrol investigators believe Diaz was behind the wheel of a white Toyota Camry. On Friday night while turning left, he allegedly slammed into a motorcycle ridden by Joseph Corcoran. The 33-year old man from Santa Cruz died from his injuries. A manhunt was called for Diaz because the driver of the Camry ran away from the scene of the crash.

Diaz’ Camry was registered in Ventura, which is where he walked into a satellite office of the police department and surrendered. He used the name “Jose Morales” when he turned himself in. Morales is a known alias for Diaz.

Diaz was booked into the Ventura County Jail. CHP officers have since escorted him to the Santa Barbara County jail where he will face charges of Felony Hit and Run.
