Cal Fire Twitter Not Affiliated With Cal Fire News
If people are looking for up-to the-minute information about California’s state fire agency, Cal_Fire is the place to go.
But the twitter account only has 35,000 followers.
Another account called Cal Fire News has 20,000 followers including news outlets, but has no connection to Cal Fire.
Regular Twitter uses will notice a blue checkmark next to the authentic one, but that hasn’t stopped the confusion.
Whenever Cal Fire News tweets supporting the legalization of marijuana and other things that have nothing to do with fire, Battalion Chief Julie Hutchinson said her phone starts ringing.
She said it’s a First Amendment issue and all they can do is try to get the work out that their Twitter account is Cal_Fire.
The man behind Cal Fire News tweets denied people would confuse the two.
