Woman Dead, Toddler Hurt in Goleta Accident
Officials are confirming that a woman has died and a child has been transported to the hospital with injuries.
The westbound side of Cathedral Oaks Road will remain closed until the Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team wraps up the investigation.
Santa Barbara County sheriff’S deputies are investigating the cause of the crash involving an SUV and a baby stoller at the corner of Cathedral Oaks Road and Santa Marguerita Drive in Goleta.
Officials said an adult was walking a child in a stroller when they were hit by an oncoming car just after 5:18 p.m. on Monday.
Witnesses described the driver as a young man. He was placed in the back seat of a sheriff’s SUV while investigators searched the inside and outside of a car with a damaged front end.
Neighbors said they have been concerned about speeding and a lack of lighting at the school crossing for years.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
