Driver Dies in Santa Barbara Car Crash

Santa Barbara police officers are investigating a major accident at Carrillo Street and Chino Street in Santa Barbara.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday between a car and an SUV. Witnesses said a Ford Explorer broadsided the car causing it to flip over and land back on all four wheels.

Three people were taken Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The 59-year-old male driver of the red Saturn died at the hospital.

Firefighters had to cut one person from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life.

Santa Barbara police investigators say the truck was traveling up Carrillo toward the beach when the driver of the car attempted to turn left from Chino and into the path of the truck.

Officers tell NewsChannel 3 it appears the driver of the truck was not speeding and did nothing wrong.

Police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in this collision.
