Gaucho Women Hoops Open Season With Easy Win

The Gauchos ran past NCAA Division III opponent Occidental College 76-54 in the season opener for both teams in women’s college basketball.

Nicole Nesbit scored a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. She also had six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Destini Mason added a career-high 16 points while Jasmine Ware added a career-best 12. Santa Barbara closed out the first half on a 22-8 run to lead 39-26. Many of those points were in transition.

Santa Barbara then opened up the second half on a 17-2 run to lead 56-28.

UCSB hosts Arizona on Saturday at 2 p.m.
