30 Years in Paradise for the Paradise Cafe

30 years ago, Paradise Cafe owner Randy Rowse, had a college degree and had just sailed halfway around the world. His restaurant experience was limited but he had the chance to buy the Paradise and now he celebrates three decades in business.

The secret to the success? He says good food quality, friendly service and consistency.

His longtime customers like former Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Steve Cushman says the Paradise has proven that you don’t have to be located on State St. to be a success.

“Literally this is the center of Santa Barbara,” said Cushman over a Paradise Cafe lunch. “As I watched people come in and eat, I was sitting here, you say ‘oh that’s so and so …and there’s the News Press (employee) walking by.’ It’s fantastic. It’s what, 20 years ago the El Paseo was. You could sit in the courtyard of El Paseo and see everybody in town. Now it’s here, and the food is great.”

This week, through Thursday, the Paradise is rolling back prices on a number of popular items including burgers for $7.95, cobb salads for 8.95, and at the retro style bar, $4.00 margaritas, and $5.00 glasses of chardonnay (along with other specials. )
