Santa Maria Veteran Remembers His Vietnam Days

As Reed Brewer flips through pictures, his memories of the service come back to him.

At the age of 19, Brewer joined the Marines following the footsteps of his brother, who joined the Navy.

He served in Vietnam for one year before returning home. He said the real struggle began.

He noticed he was short-tempered and angry, something he says were signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

He looked to family members and local groups to help him when he discovered Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 982. The group gives a support system for all veterans.

Brewer lives in a rural area in Santa Maria and is still a part of Chapter 982.
