Multiple Emergency Crews Called for Suspicious Gas Tank

Police and fire departments responded to a suspicious gas tank at 10:34 a.m. Friday.

A large compressed gas tank was left in the parking lot on 620 West Main Street in Santa Maria.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff bomb squad was called out to the scene to investigate. Emergency crews determined that the device could be possibly explosive.

Santa Maria Police evacuated a nearby dentist office and closed down all streets in a two block radius.

Three fire engines and three Bomb Technicians and multiple Police representatives were at the scene.

The Bomb Technicians used a robot to get a visual on the container as well as manipulate it.

X-rays were taken of the container determining that it was empty and did not represent a hazard.
