SBCC highlights resources for Veterans

Santa Barbara City College held a veteran’s recognition day Wednesday. About twenty community organizations, campus groups, representatives from elected officials’ offices and even state leaders were on hand to provide information and assist veterans with services available to them.

Some student veterans say it’s often difficult to acclimateinto college life, but these outreach programs are helpful.

Program advisor, Magdalena Torres works closely with veterans. She holds one-on-one sessions to answer their questions and points them in the right direction. Her group also assists with certifying benefits.

Each year SBCC names an outstanding veteran of the year. The Veterans Support program has gotten both statewide and nation wide recognition. A recognized military magazine named SBCC one of the top “Best for Vets” colleges in the nation.
