Man Fakes Armed Carjacking in Carpinteria

Law enforcement said they searched for an armed carjacker after a man made up a story about getting his vehicle stolen.

It happened around 2:40 p.m. Sunday.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies found the owner of the car who claimed his wife was inside the Porsche Cayanne being held at gunpoint by the carjacker.

The Carpinteria man also claimed there was another man who ran away.

The 5900 block of Carpinteria Avenue was shut down and traffic blocked, as deputies searched for the suspects.

However, witnesses said the man was lying.

The man was arrested for driving under the influence and for a false report of a crime.

He does have a wife but she was found unharmed in another city.
