Carpinteria Football Player Home after Car Crash

Carpinteria High football player Jonathan Esqueda is home after spending 3 days at Cottage Hospital. Esqueda was injured on Saturday night after a car crashed into the car he was driving. Doctors expect Esqueda to make a full recovery, however he will not be able to play football again this season.

Head Football Coach Ben Hallock has always tried to make his team feel like they are one big family. To honor Esqueda, Hallock and his team decided to take the short walk down from campus to Jonathan’s house, just to let him know how much they care about him.

“We hope this helps Jonathan. We want to show him support during this tough time. He really was a special part of the team,” Hallock said.

Esqueda, a Senior running back at Carpinteria High, was released on Tuesday. He suffered injuries which will effectively end his football career. But his teammates wanted him to know that he’ll always be part of the team, even if he isn’t on the field with them.

Quarterback Ian Craddock said “The first time I saw him I was really worried. But it’s great that he’s doing better now.”

Esqueda and his family have been overwhelmed with the support that they’ve received from the coaches and his teammates, who plan to dedicate Friday night’s game against Santa Paula to their injured teammate..

“We want to thank everyone for their support and their love. It really has meant a lot,” Rosalva Esqueda said.

And while there is relief that doctors say that Jonathan will make a full recovery, his presence and his energy on the field will be missed by his Warrior family

“It caused us a lot of concern. But it’s actually brought us together, and we are trying to use his energy in our practice,” Senior wide receiver Bryson Frazier said.

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate the crash. They don’t know who was driving the car that crashed into Esqueda’s car.
