Location of Bus Crash Site Considered Dangerous

Foxen Canyon Road in the Santa Maria Valley is a tight squeeze for many drivers. It’s also where a piece of farm equipment and a school bus collided this morning.

The bus went out of control, through a fence and into a large tree. The driver and three children heading to Righetti High School were hurt and hospitalized.

An eyewitness said the driver kept the bus from rolling over as it was barreling into a farm field towards a fence. A long stretch of tire tracks can be seen at the location.

One oil field worker who drivers the road daily says, he often sees 18-wheelers, and farm equipment sharing the lanes, and he knows to be alert.

Jaime Medina saw the accident scene and said, ” what I think hurts this road a lot in the early morning you have a lot of fog here.”

It’s unclear if any fog was in the area this morning but the California Highway Patrol says the area was clear.

Medina has children and seeing the accident, hit home. “The biggest fear any parent has is the kids in there and anyone can relate to that and it hits home.”
