UCSB Soccer Secures Playoff Berth With Victory

The streaks continue for UCSB.

Freshman Ismaila Jome scored an unassisted goal in the 75th minute to give the Gauchos a 2-1 over Sacramento State as UCSB becomes the first team to clinch a spot in the Big West Conference Tournament.

UCSB has won seven straight games and for the first time in school history they have started off Big West play at 6-0. By securing a conference tournament spot, UCSB will play in the postseason for the 11th time in the past 12 seasons.

Tied at 1, Ismaila stole the ball, split two defenders and unleashed a left-footed shot past a diving keeper for the game-winning goal. He also assisted UCSB’s other goal as he sent a ball through the box in the 22nd minute that Goffin Boyoko met with a left footed shot for his sixth goal on the year.

Sacramento State tied the game up at 1 with a beautiful free kick from 35 yards out by Edwin Luna.

But UCSB recovered to move to 11-4 on the year. They play at Cal Poly Friday night. The Mustangs are coming off a 1-1 draw to UC Davis.
