Homes Burned in Wind Driven Fire

Multiple agencies responded to homes on fire on the 1200 block of Oxnard Boulevard.

The fire began around 3:42 p.m. Friday near the Five Points intersection in Oxnard.

Some people saw downed power lines in the area, but firefighters have not determined the cause. Homes, apartments and businesses are in that area. Several structures were fully engulfed in flames.

Oxnard police said county and city crews were fighting the fire. There have been several fires in Ventura County today. One fire occurred on the ridge above Ventura Avenue near Shell Road, another by the Victoria motel.

Dispatchers also received calls from people mistaking dust storms for fires.

The Santa Ana winds are blowing as strong as 67 miles an hour from Laguna Peak near Point Mugu all the way to the beach and the Channel Islands and Ventura harbors.

Smoke from the Oxnard fire blew toward the ocean and could be seen for miles.

No serious injuries have been reported.
