Miyasato Named New SB County Executive Officer
Santa Barbara County has chosen Mona Miyasato as the new County Executive Officer to replace Chandra Waller. The official appointment will be made Tuesday in Santa Maria at the Board of Supervisors meeting.
Miyasato will begin her duties Dec. 9.
The official statement was released by Supervisor Salud Carbajal, the Board Chair.
The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors announced today that a tentative agreement has been reached with Mona Miyasato, who has been selected to serve as the next County Executive Officer (CEO). The agreement is subject to Board of Supervisors approval in open session during the next Board of Supervisors hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th at the Joesph Centeno Betteravia Government Administration Building in Santa Maria.
The County CEO serves as the primary advisor to the Board of Supervisors on all matters relating to the efficient and effective administration of County government. The position is responsible for both the operating and capital budget planning processes and compatibility with approved County policies and long range plans as well as management of all County functions and operations except those duties assigned to elected or appointed officers of the County. Miyasato will succeed Chandra Wallar who has served as CEO since November, 2010.
Miyasato comes to Santa Barbara from the County of Marin where she has served as Chief Assistant County Administrator since 2008. In this capacity she serves as the primary assistant to the County Administrator, leads the county administrative services departments, guides the countywide public information program, and has been responsible for the implementation of a wide range of policy initiatives including performance management and long-term restructuring efforts. During her tenure in Marin, Miyasato has also served in the capacities of Acting Information Services and Technology Director and Acting Human Resources Director.
Miyasato received Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Political Science and Economics from the University of California at Berkeley as well as a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. Prior to her service with the County of Marin, Miyasato served in various positions with the City of Santa Monica from 1998-2008, including her final post as Deputy City Manager.
