Prescription Drug Robbery is Second in Recent Months
The second pharmacy robbery in recent months where a man demanded prescription medication took place at a Rite Aid Pharmacy in Goleta early last month.
The robbery took place just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 9 in the 100 block of Fairview Avenue. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s assistance to help identify the robber – a white male in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a slim body.
The night of the incident, he was wearing a light-colored baseball hat with a red brim and dark sunglasses as seen in the surveillance images. He walked up to the pharmacy counter and handed the teller a threatening note demanding specific narcotic medication.
The pharmacist handed over an unidentified amount of prescription drugs to the thief who then fled the scene.
Police responded within several minutes of the robbery but were not able to locate the man.
The first robbery happened at Walgreens Pharmacy on the 5900 block of Calle Real Aug. 27. The suspect later identified as 19-year-old Mehdi Benamar of Oxnard was arrested after allegedly robbing the CVS Pharmacy on Carmen Drive in Camarillo early September.
