Woman Shot And Killed at Santa Paula Park

A woman was shot and killed at Santa Paula’s Mill Park just before 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Officers arrived and found the victim, Ashley Calanche, 21, of Santa Paula with a gunshot wound to the head. She died at the scene.

Officers tracked down several witnesses at a nearby apartment complex who provided valuable information about what happened and a possible suspect.

Detectives located Yajaira Dominguez, also known as Yajaira Rosales, at a home on the 500 block of Casabella Court in Santa Paula. A phone call was made to the residence and officers confirmed that Dominguez was inside. They surrounded the house, but Dominguez refused to leave the house and threatened to hurt herself.

After a 90 minute standoff, Dominguez surrendered and was taken into custody.

Detectives have not determined why Dominguez allegedly shot Calanche. They are also still looking for the weapon used in the crime.
