Jog-a-Thon Teaches More Than Physical Education

A school fundraising event mixed physical education with a geography lesson.

Hollywood Beach Elementary School teachers inspired their classes to wear outfits representing continents, countries or states as they jogged around the track.

Some children wore hula skirts, others mardi gras beads.

There were also students wearing tails to represent the animals in Africa.

The effort paid off. The kids collected pledges for their time on the track. The principal, Cheryl Davidson, called the jog-a-thon one of the best fundraisers in the Hueneme School District. It raised an estimated $12,000.
