Port Prepares to go Bananas

The deep-sea Port of Hueneme is preparing to host is second annual Banana Festival on Saturday.

Banana imports put the port on the map in 1978 when Del Monte set up shop in Port Hueneme.

The port imported more than 1.2 million banana’s last year.

The festival promised to be a bunch of fun thanks to a line-up that includes five bands.

Food booths will serve banana splits, banana smoothies, banana cream pie and more.

There will also be seaside port tours and a classic car show.

The festival gates at the end of East Hueneme Road open at 10 Saturday morning.
