Santa Barbara Family Launches ‘Outer Aisle’ Healthy Food Line

Many of us have learned that if you want to eat healthy, shop the outer aisles of the grocery store. By the end of the year, a Santa Barbara family hopes to take that concept to a whole new level.

Jeanne David and her husband and four sons are in the beginning stages of launching their vegetable-based products known as ‘The Outer Aisle: Vegetables in Disguise.’

So far, they’ve come up with four food basics: pasta, pizza, bread and rice. David says all are naturally gluten free and low-carb.

The pasta is actually strands of zucchini, the crust for the pizza dough and the bread are both vegetable-based. And by the looks of it, it’s hard to to tell that the rice isn’t really a grain. It’s cauliflower.

“The whole gluten free movement is awesome,” said David. “But we’re not finding foods that are low in carbs and gluten free. That’s what this line does. This is an answer to what our needs were. That’s why we’re so passionate about it.”

‘Outer Aisle’ products will be available, online only, for the next 30 days through Kickstarter.com.

The family is in the process of developing four more items and plans to move into local distribution by the end of the year.
