Downed Power Line Caused 94 Acre Fire in Cayucos
A brush fire, named the Creek Fire, broke out near Highway 1 and Toro Canyon Road in Cayucos around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
San Luis Obispo County fire officials say the flames burned 94 acres and was fully contained by late Tuesday morning.
Cal Fire San Luis Obispo said one firefighter sustained a minor injury. Cal Fire spokesperson Tina Rose stated the beginning of fall is the worst part of fire season.
About 100 firefighters are on the scene batting the fire. Once daylight broke, crews used an air attack with helicopters and retardant dropping planes to prevent the fire from spreading to the community of Cayucos.
Officials determined just before 5:30 p.m. that downed power lines caused the fire to start. Earlier in the day PG&E was in the area repairing the downed power lines.
No homes or structures were threatened.
