Same-sex marriage supporters hold rally

About 150 people turned out for a rally in support of same sex marriage. They met on the steps in front of the Santa Barbara courthouse Tuesday night. That’s where some of the first gay marriage ceremonies took place in June 2008. By November of that year, voters approved a Proposition eight ban on gay marriage.

The Supreme Court took the case after two lower courts ruled that the ban was unconstitutional.

Critics of gay marriage said they don’t want the justices to change anything.

But supporters believe public opinion has changed.

They said marriage equality will eventually be the law of the land.

Another rally and candlelight vigil in support of gay marriage is scheduled to take place on Main Street in Santa Maria Wednesday night.
