Black Bear Tranquilized in SLO

San Luis Obispo Police Department has concluded its search for a 300 plus pound black bear in the area of Santa Rosa Street and Foothill Boulevard.

The animal was shot with a tranquilizer dart just before 1:30 p.m, but the bear managed to escape anyway. It was last seen last Friday afternoon heading back into the wilderness.

NewsChannel 3 has exclusive video of the bear wandering a wooded area close to town.

Police began their search Friday morning after another reported sighting.

The police received numerous phone calls Thursday afternoon and tracked the bear to the area near Sierra Vista Hospital.

Some people reported seeing the bear roaming through parking lots and backyards of homes.

Officials mention they have been following this bear around town since last Sunday.
