Former Lompoc Woman Dies in Colorado Flooding

The raging flood waters in Colorado has claimed the life of a former Lompoc resident.

The Denver Post and online reports say former Lompoc resident Wiyanna Nelson, 19, and her boyfriend Wesley Quinlan are among several people confirmed dead.

Quinlan’s relatives and friends tell the paper that Nelson, Quinlan and several friends were returning from a birthday party when their car was overturned by the raging waters.

Reports say Nelson got stranded in the car. When Quinlan tried to save her, they were both swept away.

Friends from Lompoc area have posted condolence messages on Facebook.

The family is said to be devastated.

Nelson has been described as a former Lompoc High School water polo player.
