Training Day With the Santa Barbara City Fire and Water Rescue Team

The Santa Barbara City Fire and Water Rescue team took to the beaches on Thursday for some good old fashion training.

The focus for the day was improving communication between the rescue swimmers and the people on the shore. The training started with a classroom lesson that covered everything from ocean dynamics to beach access points.

People watched on as crews rescued four victims stranded in the water after their boat overturned.

It was the first time the entire department has been together to perform a major drill like this. Their goal is to do it once a year.
