Wine Grape Harvest Begins

The busiest time of the year is underway in wine country.

Vineyards are alive in many areas from the Santa Ynez Valley to Paso Robles, often in the late night hours, with the grape harvest.

One of the largest quantities will come off the chardonnay vines.

Those grapes are usually harvested after dark, when temperatures are below 60 degrees which is an optimum condition for those specific grapes.

Winemakers tell us they expect this years crop to be very solid, as it was last year.

This is the rebound they were hoping for after some cooler than normal summers a few years ago and smaller yields.

The harvest is expected to continue into early November.
