School District Needs Committee Volunteers

Santa Barbara Unified School District officials are looking for volunteers to serve on citizen oversight committees.

District officials need volunteers to make sure the money from recent voter-approved tax increases are spent properly.

The measures that were on ballots in 2010 and 2012 approved more funding for everything from math, science and technology programs to repairs and upgrades to school buildings.

“It is a relatively small commitment — four one-hour meetings. So we are hoping there are others who step forward, because we need to have people,” said Santa Barbara Unified School District spokesperson Barbara Keyani.

District officials are looking for community members with all sorts of backgrounds, including business leaders, senior citizens and parents of students.

Applications are due Monday, Sept. 16th.
