Violent Kidnapper Sentenced to 24-Years

A Oxnard man who kidnapped his former girlfriend and took her to Tijuana, Mexico, where he threatened to dismember her body, received his sentence.

A U.S District Judge sentenced Rudy Soto, 26, to 24 years in federal prison.

The kidnapping took place in Los Angeles in September 2010. The victim testified, “I was tired, and I just resigned myself. And I said if he is going to kill me, let him kill me.”

She got away by screaming for help at the Otay Mesa checkpoint at the United States-Mexico border.

A co-defendant is being prosecuted separately and is participating in a court-ordered diversionary program.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the help of Mexican authorities and the Mexican attorney general.
