Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this Weekend
The Avon Walk for breast cancer takes place this weekend. The two day event kicks off Saturday with nearly 2500 participants walking from Chase Palm Park to the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club and on to Carpinteria State Beach.
The 39-mile route will be clearly marked with signs. Organizers say that with every step, walkers will be helping men and women with breast cancer get closer to finding a cure.
The walk starts at 7 a.m., and there’s still time to register online. The Avon Walk takes place in 8 cities across the country, with the next stop in San Francisco.
Walkers will use portions of the state highway system within the cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta and Carpinteria on Saturday, September 7, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the following locations:
•Hwy. 225 between Meigs Road and Castillo Street.
•Hwy. 101 Overcrossing at W. Anapamu Street.
•Hwy. 101 Overcrossing at Olive Mill Road.
•Hwy. 101 Ortega Hill Bike Path.
•Hwy. 101 Overcrossing at Linden Avenue.
•Hwy. 101 Overcrossing at Bailard Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be present to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians. There will not be any road closures resulting from this event, but motorists should use caution when the walkers are present.
