The Central Coast Prepares For A Tsunami

A Tsunami hitting the coast is more probable than you might think. A Tsunami hitting the coast of California is even greater, but many people are not prepared if the the situation where to occur.

The Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management hosted the United States Geological Survey in a presentation of the worst case tsunami scenario.

The workshops will help increase the understanding of the potentially damaging effects of a distant tsunami. It will also create better response and evacuation planning, development of public outreach, education, and preparedness measures.

The tsunami scenario is similar to a quake exercise released several years ago designed to prepare for a big one on the San Andreas Fault.

Tsunamis are rare but they are actually a real threatto California.
