Teen Stabbed, Toddler Injured in Gang Fight and Police Chase

Santa Barbara police are investigating a possible gang stabbing near the Westside Boys and Girls Club at San Pascual and Anapamu streets. It happened about 7:50 p.m. Thursday night.

A witness told NewsChannel 3 he saw about 15 people yelling at each other in Spanish, cussing and throwing rocks at passing cars just before a fight broke out. The witness said he could see those involved punching each other.

Police arrived on scene moments later and rushed one person to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with multiple stab wounds. The 17-year-old who was hurt underwent surgery.

A short time later, two suspects who allegedly drove away from the crime scene in a BMW were being chased by police. They pulled their car into a driveway on the 300 block of Ladera Street and hit a toddler. That child suffered minor injuries.

One of the suspects then ran and tried to hide in a nearby house. The people inside the home did not know him or why he was inside their house. Officers eventually arrested both suspects, a juvenile and an adult. The BMW was also impounded.

Investigators say witnesses who called police are helping them piece together exactly what happened at both crime scenes.
