Small Fire Off Highway 101 in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara city firefighters were called out to a small brush fire in an empty homeless encampment along Highway 101, near San Pascual Street.

The flames broke out just before 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, shutting down train service for a short time and slowing southbound traffic as smoke billowed across the lanes.

Firefighters were on scene within minutes and quickly put out the 1/4 acre blaze.

No homes or structures were threatened, but the items left at the site where destroyed.
