Victims Identified in Fatal Forklift Crash
A Santa Maria man faces manslaughter and other charges stemming from a collision Thursday on Philbric Road near Betteravia.
37-year-old Daniel Castillo was driving a forklift that slammed into a Honda Civic with four people inside.
Castillo was southbound on the forklift and attempted to make a left turn into an agricultural field when he struck the left side of the northbound Civic, driving it into a nearby drainage ditch.
The driver of the Civic, Adolfo Carrasco, and a passenger in the left rear seat, Casilda Diaz Pozos, were declared dead at the scene.
Two other passengers, Mayte Carrasco and Celiset Pozos, were injured. One was taken by helicopter to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. The other went by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
Castillo was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of felony manslaughter and DUI.
