Family Displaced After Driver Slams Into Home

A Santa Maria family will be out of its house for at least one night after, according to police, a drunken driver crashed a van into the family’s North Western Ave. home.

It happened late Monday morning.

Police say a neighbor was looking outside a window at the time and saw the whole thing.

Police say the driver of the van slammed into a parked car and kept going. Seconds later, he veered up over the sidewalk and headed straight into the house at 1929 N. Western Avenue, according to police.

The van slammed into the side of the garage, damaging the roofline, police say.

Luckily, no one was home at the time.

Santa Maria Fire crews shut off power and water to the house, for safety reasons, and will determine when it’s safe for the family to return.

Police say the driver, 33-year-old Herman Dominguez Rincon, of Santa Maria, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Rincon was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into jail.
