Broken Water Main Slows Traffic Along Hollister Ave in Goleta
The Goleta Water District is working to repair a 60-year-old pipe that burst and flooded streets in Old Town Goleta over the weekend.
Officials say 900,000 gallons of water bubbled to the surface when the pipe broke. Water service was shut off for a short time while crews made temporary repairs at the intersection of Hollister Avenue and Rutherford Street.
Monday, workers started the permanent fix to the pipe. Goleta Water District, Director Tom Bunosky says Hollister Avenue will be worked on until Thursday, and then closed again the following Tuesday to finish off the project.
Traffic is slow in the area as workers also repair other pipes in the intersection to try to prevent another break.
