Adult Education Costs Jump at SBCC

Students who want to take Adult Education courses at Santa Barbara City College are discovering some of the courses are no longer free.

SBCC revamped the system with a new program called the Center for Lifelong Learning. The college is no longer receiving reimbursement from state sources for the cost of some Adult Education Courses, prompting a fee hike to cover the costs.

Some students accustomed to courses offered for free in the past are in the position of not being able to afford the current offerings.

Tuition assistance may be available for students based on need. Classes begin September 9.

The change comes as the new Center hosted a weekend Open House to showcase some of the changes in approach for the 2013 school year. NewsChannel 3 cameras were on the scene to record the event.
