Stabbing Suspect Arrested at Gunpoint

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested suspect Gabriel Rivera Friday.

Rivera is suspected to have stabbed two men on Wednesday afternoon. The arrest happened just before 1:30 p.m. near the 1500 block of San Marcos Pass Road.

Deputies had their guns drawn and arrested him shortly after 2:15 p.m.

Full press release from Santa Barbara County Sheriff: Stabbing Suspect, 47 year old Gabriel Nicholas Rivera, is in custody. At 1:26 p.m. the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip that Rivera had returned to the property where the crime occurred on August 21. Rivera, was originally a guest of a resident in the 1500 block of Highway 154 and had come back to get some of his property.

Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies responded to the scene along with Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit Copter 2. Deputies secured the perimeter and surrounded the residence where Rivera was believed to be hiding. Several announcements were made asking him to surrender, movement was detected within the residence upon which time Rivera came out with his hands up.

He was taken into custody without further incident. No one was hurt during the incident. He was arrested on outstanding warrants for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Rivera is being held on $100,000 bail.
