Local firefighters offer assistance
Firefighters from stations up and down the coast are sending mutual aid crews to a fire burning near Yosemite National Park.
The Rim Fire started Saturday.
Since then, it’s grown to more than twice the size of San Francisco.
Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency Thursday.
Crews from Santa Barbara County are already there.
Capt. Scott Safechuck, from Station 13, said, “It’s not that often we see a place like that burn, to have our people there being part of it protecting special places is something for us to be proud of.”
Santa Barbara City firefighters are prepared to leave in the morning.
The National Park remains open despite the fire fight.
