Vandalism leads to evacuations

Vandalism led to the evacuation of the engineering science building on the UCSB campus around 6 p.m. Monday.

Most students are off for the summer, but faculty and staff stayed on the lawn while police checked the building with the help of a bomb sniffing dog.

University Police said a citizen reported that a male subject vandalizing a window.

Officers took the man identified as Neil Paul Baker into custody.

Bakers is an engineer who once worked in a UCSB lab. His prior record included making threats.

Due to Mr. Baker’s presence, the facility was searched and rendered safe.

Mr. Baker is in police custody and will be charged with felony vandalism and trespassing.
