SM firefighters get new rescue truck

The Santa Maria Airport fire station received a new rescue truck.

The new truck can carry 3,000gallons of water and hundreds of gallons of gas, dry chemicals and foam. It also detects heat and can travel up to 70 miler per hour.

The Federal Aviation Administrationrequires that airport fire stations keep up with technology. That’s why the FAAfunded nearly 90 percent of the $1 million price tag on the truck. All firefighters at the station will undergo training on the truck and it will be ready for use in the next few weeks.
