Motorcycle accident takes the life of Khalid Hurst
Santa Barbara police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash.
It happened on Miramonte Drive near Carrillo Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Khalid Hurst, 36, of Santa Barbara was killed in the crash. His female passenger is expected to make a full recovery. Police say she walked away with only a few scratches. Hurst died from a brain injury on scene. Officers closed off the intersection during the initial investigation.
Excessive speed does not seem to be a factor; however, Police say alcohol may have played a role. Sgt Mike McGrew says there were a few witnesses who said they had seen Hurst drinking earlier in the day, but they’re waiting on the toxicology report.
Hurst played football for Santa Barbara High School in 1994. He graduated in 1995, and went on to play at Santa Barbara City College. He was well known in the community. Those who know him describe him as one of the funniest, most kind hearted individuals.
