Foodbank gets help from two local boys

One of the Foodbank’s youngest supporters is on his way to raise $10,000 for the nonprofit and has recruited a friend to help.

Jacob Mansbach, 9, is gearing up for his eighth triathlon, this time in Carpinteria.

“I want people to know that it’s fun to do triathlons and everybody can raise money,” said Mansbach.

His next swim, run and bike adventure will once again be to raise money for the Foodbank.

Last year he brought in $4,600. Now that his friend Dario de Albergaria is on board, the boys want to more than double that amount.

“Yeah, because Jake he was 8 last year and he raised $4,000 but now he’s 9 and I’m 11 so I think we can raise $10,000,” said de Albergaria.

Both the Carpinteria Chamber of Commerce and City Council are recognizing their effort and presented them with certificates. But that’s not why they do it.

“It’s special to me because it helps kids and families get the food that they need,” said Mansbach.

They boys know the $10,000 will go a long way.

“We’re really excited. It sends such an incredible message to the community, that everyone can be involved in providing food for the county,” said Misha Karbelnig of the Foodbank.
