Skateboarding community speaking up

A public meeting will be held Wednesday at 6pm at Skater’s Point in Santa Barbara. The Goleta Skateboarding Movement and the Parks and Recreation department are hosting the talk in an effort to establish dialogue and to discuss solutions.

This comes just one month after the city shut down Skater’s Point on Cabrillo Blvd for three days, after Police say a few park users were using drugs and throwing water balloons at people and cars. Now local skateboarders want to improve their image and relationship with local residents.

Parks and Recreation Director, Nancy Rapp, says 97% of the time there are no problems at the park. Also, in the 13 years the park has been active there have only been 2-3 incidents.
