Man arrested for February murder on Olive Street

Two SWAT teams were part of two raids this morning in Santa Barbara, resulting in the arrest of 20-year old Joseph Castro for allegedly committing a murder last February.

Police say they are certain Castro was involved in the shooting death of Kelly Hunt on Olive St. near Carrillo. They are not revealing the motive and have had a tight lip on other specific details of the killing.

A bicycle was at the scene and it’s still not known who owns it or how it is connected.

Sgt. Riley Harwood says Castro is a known gang member and goes by the nickname “Grumps.”

Additional suspects are being sought in this case. “This continues to be a large and complex investigation,” said Harwood.

He did not say if the murder weapon had been found. Police are also not saying what brought them to another address, on the Santa Barbara Mesa. No one was arrested there.

Castro is currently at the SBPD station and faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and participation in a criminal street gang with a bail amount of $1,100,000.00.
